Board of Directors

Bead’s Board of Directors is made up of outside members from various fields of expertise. They have a fiduciary responsibility to the Shareholders to oversee the management of the business and corporate affairs in accordance with the company’s Bylaws.

Ken Bryant, Chairman of the Board

Ken Bryant joined Bead in 1998 and immediately implemented a new strategic vision for the company based on its core strengths and Lean manufacturing principles. Ken right-sized the organization, purchased modern new facilities and established an outside board of directors to guide and monitor Bead’s progress. Formerly, Ken was the Chairman of the Metal Manufacturing Education and Training Alliance (METAL) , member of the Industrial Board of the International Association of Management of Technology (IAMOT), executive Board member of the New Haven Manufacturer’s Association (NHMA), executive Board member of the West End Community Development Corp. in Bridgeport, and a board member of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council. Ken earned a BA from Beloit College and an MA from the National College of Education. He has been a board member of Bead Industries since August 1987 and sits on the Compensation Committee.

Patrick Egan, Board Member

Mr. Egan brings over 30 years experience as General Manager and VP of Operations at various manufacturing companies across Connecticut including Applied Tech Products, Rexam Cosmetic Packaging, and The Stanley Works. His specialties include lean manufacturing, quality systems, flow technology, and continuous improvement. Currently, his is the Director of Parish Services for the Archdiocese of Hartford. Mr. Egan earned a BS from Northeastern and an MBA from Boston University. He is a member of the Boston University Manufacturing Roundtable and the American Institute of Industrial Engineers . Mr. Egan has been a board member of Bead Industries since January 2002.

Paul Ruby, Board Member

Mr. Ruby has over 40 years of management consulting, strategic planning, business valuation, corporate finance and operating management experience. As financial director of a Fortune 500 consumer products company, he designed and implemented their first strategic plan, evaluated acquisitions, analyzed new products and managed the finance department. He was head of mergers and acquisitions for a diversified NYSE corporation where he completed a number of transactions. As president of two divisions, he restored one operation to profitability and expanded the other to a multi-plant operation. Prior to founding Parker Benjamin , Mr. Ruby was senior merger and acquisition specialist at an investment banking firm. He holds a BS in Aeronautical Engineering from MIT and an MBA from Harvard Graduate School of Business. He has also been qualified to perform business valuations for the IRS and FDIC. Paul is an active member of the Board of Directors of a number of closely-held family businesses. He has been a board member of Bead Industries since October 2001, and sits on the Compensation Committee.

Tracey Miller, Board Member

Mrs. Miller has been a Board member since 1997 and currently serves as Board Secretary. After working at Bead Industries during high school packaging fishing lures in the former Fishing Tackle Division, Tracey worked for 25 years in marketing and advertising in small to mid sized companies. She has experience conducting research for new target markets, developing market strategies and assisting in product development and branding. In addition, Tracey has served on various non-profit boards.

Steve DeMartino, Board Member

Mr. DeMartino joined the board this year and is currently President and CFO of TransAct Technologies , a designer of world-class transaction printers. He is responsible for the company’s overall operating strategy as well as the company’s finance, IT, and HR functions. Steve has been with TransAct since 1996, most recently serving as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer and Secretary. Prior to joining TransAct, he worked as Controller for Copart, Inc. and as Senior Accountant for PricewaterhouseCoopers. Steve is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a BA in Economics and Accounting from the College of the Holy Cross and an MBA from the University of Connecticut.

Jill Mayer, Board Member

Mrs. Mayer joined the board in 2014. She assumed the role of Corporate President the same year and was responsible for strategic planning, executive leadership and capital allocation. In 2018, she was promoted to CEO to lead the company into the future through growth and innovation. Jill began her career at Bead in 2007 as Financial Controller. She was responsible for HR, financial planning, budget management and financial reporting of both Bead Chain and Bead Electronics divisions. In addition to Bead's board, she serves on the Board of Advisors of the University of New Haven's Center for Family Business and the Board of Directors of the New Haven Manufacturers Association. Jill holds a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Vermont and Master of Science from Champlain College.

Retired Board Members

Richard Cote

Mr. Cote, a CPA, was a member of the board of Bead Industries, Inc. from 2002-2015. He began his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Hartford, CT, upon graduation from the University of Hartford. After leaving public accounting, he held various financial roles at Xerox Corporation, Emhart Corporation and Wang Laboratories. In 2004, Mr. Cote retired from TransAct Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ-TACT), a $60 million manufacturer of specialty printers, where he held the position of Executive Vice President, CFO, Treasurer and Secretary, and was a member of the Board of Directors. He assisted in taking that company public in 1996. Mr. Cote was chairman of the school board at The Prout School, a private parochial high school in South Kingstown, RI from 2006 to 2011. He was also a board member and treasurer of The Palms of Bay Beach, Inc., a condominium association in Fort Myers Beach from 2008 to 2011. He now serves on the audit committee for the Town of Fort Myers Beach. Mr. Cote and his wife Roberta have four children and six grandchildren. He currently resides in Fort Myers Beach, FL.
